Free Engineering Software

I wouldn’t want people to get the idea that I was advertising proprietary software on this blog with the previous post.  So in an effort to redeem myself here are a few very, very interesting links:-

OpenFOAM – this a fully 3D solver system that does fluid mechanics – over the summer I will see if we can get it to run the Durham Cascade simulation.

Salome – this is fascinating development that now appears to be fully free software.  It used to have a note forbidding commerical exploitation.  It appears to be a very general framework for solving engineering problems.

CAE Linux – if you don’t want to go the trouble of actually installing either of those, there is a Live DVD available for download with most things preconfigured.  I’ll let you know how I get on…
